Built on a Strong Foundation
Our roots trace back to specialty contracting in vertical concrete frame construction and masonry work. Over the years, we’ve partnered with some of the Gulf Coast’s most respected construction management firms and developers—delivering high-quality results on both commercial buildings and custom waterfront homes.
With more than two decades of experience, our portfolio includes not only new construction but also major renovation and restoration projects. From structural overhauls to intricate masonry detailing, our early work laid the groundwork for the comprehensive general contracting services we provide today.
Our Story
In 2019, following the successful completion of major renovations and expansions at Jacaranda Plaza in Venice, two Sarasota County school additions and upgrades, and the installation of new stone entrance signs at the Sarasota-Bradenton Airport, the owners of the company saw an opportunity to evolve. With over 20 years of experience in construction and development, the natural next step was to transition into a full-service General Contractor.
Built Solid Homes, LLC was born from this vision—merging Co-owner Jeanine Woods’ real estate expertise with a renewed focus on renovations and site redevelopment. Backed by a portfolio of world-class projects and deep experience in both commercial and residential construction, the company reintroduced itself with a specialized emphasis on coastal properties.
Today, Built Solid Homes provides a wide range of services tailored to the unique demands of Florida’s shoreline communities. From structural renovations and whole-home remodels to environmentally sensitive dune restoration and permitting, we bring precision, passion, and performance to every project.
Meet Gary Wood Founder & General Contractor
Gary Wood grew up with the Atlantic in his backyard, a Virginia Beach native who learned early how the ocean can shape a person’s life. Since 1985, Florida’s Gulf Coast has been his home, his workplace, and the place where he’s built a reputation as a trusted contractor for more than 25 years.
Gary’s eight years in the U.S. Navy took him across the world’s oceans, standing watch on the decks of warships and learning firsthand the power, unpredictability, and beauty of the sea. Those years — combined with a childhood spent exploring dunes, marshes, and shoreline habitats — left him with a deep respect for marine life and a strong sense of responsibility to protect coastal environments.
That connection to the sea is at the heart of the work he does today. As a Florida State Certified General Contractor, Gary brings decades of hands‑on experience to every project, especially those shaped by the challenges of coastal living. He understands how salt, storms, tides, and shifting sands affect homes and landscapes, and he approaches each job with the care of someone who knows what’s at stake for families living near the water.
Gary believes coastal construction is a team effort. He works side‑by‑side with architects, engineers, environmental specialists, and a trusted group of subcontractors — people who share his commitment to doing things right and building with longevity in mind. Together, they create solutions that respect the shoreline, strengthen communities, and honor the natural character of Florida’s coast.
Meet Jeanine Wood Co-Owner & Realtor
Jeanine Wood is a U.S. Navy veteran whose connection to the sea runs deep. During her six years of service aboard the USS Hunley (AS‑31), she witnessed the raw power of the ocean when Hurricane Hugo devastated Folly Beach and Charleston, South Carolina. Her role in the ship’s humanitarian response earned her the Humanitarian Service Medal — a recognition that reflects her character as much as her service.
Jeanine and her husband, Gary, have spent more than 25 years raising their family in Sarasota County. Their oldest son, Andrew, graduated from Sarasota Military Academy in 2004 before beginning a distinguished career as a highly decorated Army Ranger — a legacy of service that runs through the Wood family.
With decades on Florida’s Gulf Coast, Jeanine brings a refined understanding of coastal living, local communities, and the nuances of waterfront property. As co‑owner of the company, she plays a key role in construction operations, ensuring every project aligns with regulatory requirements, environmental considerations, and the elevated expectations of coastal homeowners.
In addition to her construction expertise, Jeanine is an active Realtor® with Allison James Estates and Homes, specializing in properties throughout Englewood and Manasota Key. Her dual background — real estate and residential construction compliance — gives clients a rare advantage during pre‑purchase evaluations, redevelopment planning, and coastal property investment.
Jeanine is a member of the Realtors Association of Sarasota‑Manatee and holds several respected professional designations, including:
Accredited Buyer’s Representative (ABR®)
Certified Waterfront Specialist
NAR Green Designation
Her commitment to sustainable development and coastal preservation is woven into everything she does — from the homes she helps build to the shoreline communities she helps strengthen. Jeanine’s work reflects a blend of professionalism, environmental stewardship, and a genuine love for life along the Gulf.
