With more than two decades of experience, our portfolio includes not only new construction but also major renovation and restoration projects. From structural overhauls to intricate masonry detailing, our early work laid the groundwork for the comprehensive general contracting services we provide today.
Our Story
In 2019, following the successful completion of major renovations and expansions at Jacaranda Plaza in Venice, two Sarasota County school additions and upgrades, and the installation of new stone entrance signs at the Sarasota-Bradenton Airport, the owners of the company saw an opportunity to evolve. With over 20 years of experience in construction and development, the natural next step was to transition into a full-service General Contractor.
Built Solid Homes, LLC was born from this vision—merging Co-owner Jeanine Woods’ real estate expertise with a renewed focus on renovations and site redevelopment. Backed by a portfolio of world-class projects and deep experience in both commercial and residential construction, the company reintroduced itself with a specialized emphasis on coastal properties.
Today, Built Solid Homes provides a wide range of services tailored to the unique demands of Florida’s shoreline communities. From structural renovations and whole-home remodels to environmentally sensitive dune restoration and permitting, we bring precision, passion, and performance to every project.
Meet Gary Wood – Founder & General Contractor
Gary Wood is a proud U.S. Navy veteran and native of Virginia Beach, VA. He’s called Florida home since 1985 and has been a trusted local contractor for over 25 years.
Raised as a “Navy Brat,” Gary spent his early years moving up and down the eastern seaboard, following his father’s service in the U.S. Navy Submarine Force. His own eight-year tour aboard Navy warships navigating the world’s oceans, combined with a childhood spent near the shore, instilled a lifelong respect for marine life, coastal ecosystems, and the importance of environmental stewardship.
Today, Gary channels that same sense of purpose into his work as a Florida State Certified General Contractor. His technical expertise spans commercial and high-end residential vertical concrete frame construction, masonry, and specialized concrete repair—including spalling restoration. With decades of hands-on experience, he leads every project with precision, care, and a deep understanding of coastal construction challenges.
Gary’s approach is collaborative and team-driven. He partners with a network of seasoned professionals—architects, engineers, environmental specialists, and a carefully vetted group of subcontractors—to deliver exceptional results. Every project reflects his commitment to quality, sustainability, and the unique character of Florida’s shoreline communities.
Meet Jeanine Wood – Co-Owner, Project Manager & Realtor
Jeanine Wood is a U.S. Navy veteran and a proud native of Wichita, Kansas. Her connection to the sea and commitment to environmental stewardship began during her service aboard the USS Hunley (AS-31), where she experienced firsthand the devastating impact of Hurricane Hugo on Folly Beach and Charleston, South Carolina in 1989. For her role in the ship’s humanitarian response, Jeanine was awarded the Humanitarian Service Medal.
After her military service, Jeanine settled in Sarasota and now resides in Englewood, Florida, where she and her husband Gary have raised five children. With over 25 years in the area, she brings deep local knowledge and a passion for coastal living to every project.
As co-owner of Built Solid Homes, LLC, Jeanine manages the company’s administrative and accounting systems and serves as project manager for interior finishes—including tile, paint, wallpaper, trim, and cabinetry. Her eye for detail and design ensures that each home reflects both functionality and beauty.
In addition to her construction role, Jeanine is an active Realtor® with Allison James Estates and Homes, specializing in properties across Englewood and Manasota Key. Her dual expertise in real estate and residential construction compliance makes her an invaluable asset during pre-purchase evaluations and property redevelopment.
